SUMMARY:2022 Mercy Care Annual Friendship Picnic
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nPlease join us for this special annual celebration of the “errands of mercy” our Volunteers\, undertake so kindly and compassionately with your elder neighbors on Thursday\, September 8\, 2022\, at 12:00 pm at Camp Guggenheim Lodge\, 1468 County Rt 18\, Saranac Lake\, NY. \nMercy Care has so much gratitude for all the hours\, miles\, and love you have given your elders during the challenging past year. We hope you will consider joining us in recognizing Mercy Care’s “Volunteer of the Year\,” along with other special recognition awards we will present. If your elder is able\, and you wish to bring them along\, they would be most welcome. \nScott van Laer will provide a short presentation on The Paul Smiths College Visitor Interpretive Center (The VIC) and John Dillon Park. \nScott spent 25 years working as a New York State Forest Ranger\, with the majority of that time spent in the High Peaks Wilderness Area. After retiring\, Scott went on to work for his alma mater\, Paul Smiths College\, as the Director of the Visitor Interpretive Center. Where he has been focusing on expanding programming\, events\, and conservation-related activities since he began in 2021.\nThe Paul Smiths College VIC property currently has over 25 miles of trails\, including six miles of interpretive trails\, which are surfaced for easy access and feature signs explaining the local ecology\, making them accessible and enjoyable for people of all ages and abilities. \nJohn Dillon Park\, a unique park with a mission to offer free camping for individuals\, friends\, and families with functional differences\, is located half an hour south of Tupper Lake. The park offers a wide range of activities accessible to all\, such as surfaced pathways and trails\, accessible camping\, and fishing.
