Friendship Volunteer Training
We would like to invite you to consider becoming a Mercy Care Friendship Volunteer with Mercy Care for the Adirondacks. You would be joining over 100 other caring individuals who have been trained as Mercy Care Friendship Volunteers. We hope you can be part of our team to help your elder neighbors age in place more successfully.
Mercy Care for the Adirondacks, sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy, strives to enhance in every dimension the fullness of life of elders living independently in their communities. Mercy Care’s Friendship Volunteers do this by offering friendship and companionship to relieve isolation and loneliness and by providing informal supports to elders and their caregivers such as assistance with grocery shopping, transportation, and helping elders to stay engaged with their community.
Our next training is projected to be in October 2021. The following article in Plattsburgh's Press-Republican promoted the training we held in May 2021. The days of the week, times, place and COVID-19 restrictions (hopefully) of the October '21 training may be different:
Volunteer trainees will learn together about offering friendship
and assistance to elders in sessions on healthy aging, spirituality, community
resources for elders, and other topics.
We would be very pleased to have you “on board” with us, as we work to enhance the quality of life of older adults in our community. Our next training for Mercy Care Friendship Volunteers will be offered in October 2021. If you are interested, please feel free to go ahead and complete our online registration form available here: Friendship Volunteer Registration so we'll have your contact information and can reach out when we've set the specific dates, times and place of the next training.
